Cardiology thesis cover design

Eye-catching and personal thesis design for a medical thesis
The cover design of a dissertation is the first thing people see. It tells the reader what the book is about and sets the tone for reading. It can rouse curiosity and excite readers to dive into a topic.
A little while ago, Randy van Dijk contacted me to design his doctoral thesis cover as well as a matching invitation, bookmark and theses page. Randy already had a few ideas about what he would like the cover to look like; together we further explored those and decided on a concept to be drawn up.
An initial sketch was made, which is shown below. A traditional anatomical drawing (also shown below) formed the base of the illustration. It was further modified digitally. Upon receiving feedback on the sketch and  the colour palette, I made a first version of the cover. The final cover can be seen at the far right below. Once the cover was final, a matching bookmark, invitation and theses page were designed, as well as a different rendition of the illustration to be used on chapter pages. High quality art prints of the illustration were also made upon request.
